![]() Here, that man is Laird Hamilton, big-wave-rider extraordinaire, star of the classic documentary, Riding with Giants, and a surfer whose acts of skill and courage are legendary. New York Times bestselling author, Susan Casey, talks to the climatologists trying to unlock the causes of these waves, and looks at the danger they will wreak on our planet. These rogue waves have attracted an obsessive following of scientists, who seek to understand them, and of extreme surfers, looking to tame them. They have the power to flatten oil rigs and sink supertankers more disturbingly still, they seem to disobey the laws of physics, swelling when logic shows they should be running out of steam. In recent years waves have been recorded which are dramatically larger in size, power and frequency than anything seen before. Unlike many monsters, however, this one is known to exist- the 100-foot wave. "This is a story about hunting for a monster. ![]()

![]() For if the Perfect Clock starts ticking, time-as we know it-will end. Which means esteemed History Monk Lu-Tze and his apprentice Lobsang Ludd have to put on some speed to stop the timepiece before it starts. Well, stop time, that is, by building the world's first truly accurate clock. While everyone talks about slowing down, one young horologist is about to do the unthinkable. Which is why, on Discworld, only the experts can manage it-the venerable Monks of History who store it and pump it from where it's wasted, like underwater (how much time does a codfish really need?) to places like cities, where busy denizens lament never having enough of it. ![]() ![]() Time itself is threatened- and it's up to the History Monks to save it in Terry Pratchett's bestselling Discworld(R) seriesĮverybody wants more time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Published by Truman State University Press - ISBN 9780943549835 ![]()

Had the advertisement been about a soap powder, it would fall foul of the Trade Descriptions Act. It is an insult to the huge roster of true explorers. In truth, it’s his initial zombie trilogy– Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead–for which he’ll always be remembered, but for a brief time in the early ’80s, Romero was a legitimate mainstream box office director, who managed to turn out another film for which he’s owed much more than he gets. ![]() Romero was and will ever be a legend, wholly under appreciated in his time, and even when he was given his due during his life, it was always with the caveat that he probably wouldn’t be able to get another movie funded unless it was a zombie picture. ![]() ![]() ![]() She knows the only person who can help her is Adair, the immortal who had turned her and ultimately made the better part of her life hell. ![]() Luke is stricken with cancer and once she's buried yet another lover, Lenore realises she must help Jonathan, or go mad. ![]() Lenore is certain that only she can save him. The Descent: Book Three of the Taker Trilogy by Alma Katsu ![]() ![]() ![]() Laurie agreed, but as a children’s book author, she thought it would be better if every child could experience Emmanuel’s story from within the pages of a book. Laurie first learned of Emmanuel’s story in 2005, when a documentary about his life was promoted on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” “I think every parent should go take their children to see this movie,” Oprah said, “because it will change the way your children think about what they can do and can be.” Today, Emmanuel continues to work on behalf of the disabled. Eventually Emmanuel became a cyclist, riding 400 miles across Ghana in 2001. He hopped to school more than 2 miles each way, learned to play soccer and left home at 13 to provide for his family. ![]() Though many people thought he was useless, Emmanuel reached for his dreams. Emmanuel was born in Ghana, West Africa, with one deformed leg. So, I’m really hoping these next few books make me see the light. The plots are fast-paced, Harry Dresden is our loveable chauvinistic wizard, and there are monsters around every corner. ![]() Not at all! They were solid urban fantasy books. This is not to say that these first three books were bad. If I stop or pause for a break with another book/series, I might never come back, and I don’t want to miss out on what people have been promising – the books get better after book 4, Summer Knight (or 6, Blood Rites – depends who you ask!). I’ve been burning through these books in Jim Butcher‘s The Dresden Files quite quickly – 3 this week – but I do feel like I have to right now. Grave Peril felt like a step towards something bigger.
